Three Seas Initative Scientific Conference in Vilnius organized with Lithuanian Academy of Science, University of Łódź and 3SI Research Center

Once again, we were honored to organize the official side event of the Three Seas Initiative summit.

This year in Vilnius, we had the privilege of co-organizing the International Scientific Conference “The Three Seas Initiative: One Concept, Different Approaches?”, which served as a platform for diverse experts to share insights and perspectives on critical issues impacting our region.

During this event, our project coordinator, Jędrzej Błaszczak, played a pivotal role as a co-moderator, while the project leader, Prof. Agnieszka Orzelska-Stączek presented the state of the research titled: “The Three Seas Initiative: An original concept of intra-European Union cooperation. Overcoming ambiguity”.

The conference presented the research findings of the team of experts from the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) participating states. Its goal was to add to our knowledge of regional cooperation and discuss the current state of research in this area from various academic disciplines and national perspectives.

The main research questions the contributors sought to answer revolve around the current state of knowledge on the 3SI and the reasons for the widely differing levels of interest in this form of regional cooperation. What are the primary sources of knowledge about the 3SI, what is the state of the knowledge on the 3SI, and what are the methods of acquiring knowledge about the 3SI in their countries? The conference significantly contributed to developing regional cooperation as an incentive to create a new scientific facet of the 3SI, which is strongly needed in Central and Eastern Europe to enhance mutual understanding and improve communication. Additionally, it was essential to highlight the role of science diplomacy as a component in strategic communication between the states in times of war and peace.

Two other notable institutions co-organized the event: the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and the University of Lodz.

The event was opened by the welcoming video from the president, Dr Gitanas Nausėda, President of the Republic of Lithuania, Prof. Dr. Habil. Jūras Banys, President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, and Gediminas Varvuolis, Ambassador at Large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania;

Our conference was noted on the official websites of the President of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
