We are pleased to introduce the original monograph entitled “The Three Seas Initiative: An Original Concept of Regional Cooperation in Different Approaches” edited by Agnieszka Orzelska-Stączek.
This monograph represents over two years of extensive research in the project, focusing on the format of the Three Seas Initiative. Initially consisting of twelve countries and ultimately expanding to thirteen following Greece’s anticipated joining in 2023, the research and preparation of the monograph involved three primary stages. These stages included the development of the concept, extensive data collection, analysis, study visits, and organizing seminars and conferences across several countries involved in the Initiative.
The monograph features a rich collection of articles contributed by scholars from Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, and other states within the 3SI region. This diverse range of perspectives offers a comprehensive view of the Three Seas Initiative, covering its foundation, origins, aims, and the role of individual states.
The monograph is a significant addition to the field of regional cooperation, enriching the existing body of knowledge and providing valuable insights into the Three Seas Initiative. It offers a comprehensive overview of the current state of research on the initiative, drawing from various academic disciplines and national perspectives.
The contributors’ main research questions include the current state of knowledge about the 3SI, methods of data acquisition, and the varying narratives and perceptions of the initiative within different states. The monograph seeks to explain the significant differences in approaches to the 3SI among the participating states.
Noteworthy contributors to the monograph include H. E. Gediminas Varvuolis, Ivan Koprić, Iva Lopižić, Vít Dostál, Matthew Crandall, Miklós Mitrovits, Andrzej Pukszto, Robertas Eismontas, Łukasz Lewkowicz, Marlena Gołębiowska, Mihai Sebe, and Tomáš Strážay, all of whom have provided valuable insights from their respective perspectives and areas of expertise.
The monograph, a product of the Three Seas Initiative Research Center, is a testament to dedicated scientific work and offers a comparative perspective. It contributes substantially to the current understanding of regional cooperation within Central Europe.
